Liturgical Ministries

Parish Choir                              

The ministry of the choir is to enhance the spiritual and religious encounter of each and every participant attending any given celebration i.e. Mass, Community Worship.  The Saint Francis Xavier Choir is open to all.  Arlene Transue serves as Director of the choir along with her husband, accompanist, Paul Transue. They welcome volunteer singers are who are able to sing in tune and rehearse each Wednesday evening at 5:30pm.

The choir provides musical leadership primarily at the Sunday 10:00am Mass. Persons interested should e-mail atransue19@frontier.com  for an appointment.

 

Lector

Proclaim the Word of God with the first and second readings at all Sunday Masses and special liturgies throughout the year. A required training is offered. The Holy Spirit will lead your heart to this ministry if it is right for you.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Ministers assist the priest as servants of the gathered community distributing the Body and Precious Blood of Christ.  Adult and those who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to serve.

Hospitality (Usher)

Greet and Welcome people as they arrive for weekend liturgy, arrange for the gifts to be taken to the altar, distribute weekly bulletins at end of Mass.  Time 1 hour/wk when scheduled.  Call the office (618) 457-4556

 

Server                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
Boys and girls 4th grade and higher needed to assist the priest at weekend liturgies and special occasions. Training is provided.  Contact:  Fr. Bob Flannery (618) 457-4556

 

Sacristan                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
Prior to Mass verify that everything is set up and ready.  After Mass clean up and set up for next Mass. Training for this ministry is provided. Time required: arrive 15 minutes before Mass and 15 minutes after Mass.  Contact:  Suzanne Schmitz (618) 559-8236

 

Liturgy Committee                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
This group plans for the liturgical feasts/periods (Christmas, Lent, Easter & Advent) with the pastor.  Meets quarterly for approximately one hour.

Liturgy of the Word with Children                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Volunteers will meet with children during Liturgy of the Word during the 10 AM Sunday Liturgies. During Lent and Advent there is a gathering during the 8 am Liturgy. Time 1/2 hour/month.  Contact Person:  Pastoral Associate at 618-457-4556

 

Church Arts & Environment                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
The Arts and Environment Ministry coordinates the visual appearance of the church environment, carefully selecting flowers, artwork, and decorations to create a prayerful worship environment during the various seasons of the liturgical year. Volunteers are always welcome and needed, both to help create and change the seasonal decor, and to water and care for the live plants. 

Desired Skills: Artists and those with an artistic eye; artisans, craftspeople, people who are willing to arrange and care for plants and flowers, people who can build and sew, especially during major liturgical seasons. Commitment: Meets seasonally

Clean church linens, remove stains when needed. Machine wash and dry. Steam iron for re-use.
